4 comments so far (post your own)I made a brain dead typographical error in my summary of why Lee Roy Jordan should be in the Hall of Fame. Jordan has the second most tackles on the all time on the DALLAS COWBOY tackle list - not the all time NFL list. I acknowledge this mistake so that Lee Roy Jordan is elected on his ample and well deserved merits and facts - and not upon mistakes or hyperbole. Posted by Cosme Ripol on 02/17/2023 @ 10:03am |
Lee Roy Jordan must be elected to the Hall of Fame immediately. There are twelve middle linebackers currently residing in Canton. Lee Roy Jordan has more turnover recoveries (32 interceptions and 18 fumble recoveries for a total of fifty) than ANY other of the middle linebacker elected to the Hall of Fame except for Ray Lewis who had 51 turnover recoveries (31 interceptions and 20 fumble recoveries. Significantly, however, Ray Lewis played in forty-one more games than Lee Roy Jordan. Lee Roy Jordan, as the leader of the famous Dallas Cowboy "Doomsday" defense led the National football League in fewest yards allowed rushing in the 1966; 1967; 1968; 1969 and 1972 seasons; finished second in fewest yards allowed rushing in 1971; 1973 and 1974. Indeed, the Dallas Cowboy defense finished in the top five of fewest total yards allowed in EVERY season from 1966-1976 except for 1967 (6th); 1973 (7th) and 1976 (7th). Much of this was due to Lee Roy Jordan's non-parallel tackling ability. Lee Roy Jordan, despite playing in 14 game seasons, still ranks third and fourth in NFL history for most unassisted tackles in a season (100 in 1968 and 97 in 1973.) Lee Roy Jordan was recognized as the NFC defensive player of the year in 1973, meaning there was no defensive player better than he in 1973. A two time All -Pro and five time pro bowler, Pro Football Hall of Fame Reference Monitor rates Lee Roy Jordan the nineteenth finest inside linebacker in NFL history, ahead of such Hall of Fame inside linebacker luminaries as Sam Mills. Finally, Lee Roy Jordan's Dallas Cowboys made the playoffs ten of his fourteen seasons, playing in two NFL title games, three Super Bowls and five NFC title games. To this day, Lee Roy Jordan is the second leading total tackler in NFL history. Indeed, had it not been for the towering presence of Dick Butkus, Ray Nitschke and Willie Lanier in the middle, Lee Roy Jordan would have been the ascendant middle linebacker of his era; and when measured in terms of team success and team defensive dominance, Lee Roy Jordan ranks above Butkus and Lanier and just behind Nitschke. In summary, it is criminal that Lee Roy Jordan is not in the Hall of Fame and should be and must be honored with a gold jacket and a bust in Canton.. Posted by Cosme Ripol on 02/14/2023 @ 17:36pm |
