I disagree on Coryell. A true offensive innovator that influences teams to this very day. As a college coach, he popularized the I-Formation that influenced both college and pro football. His coaching tree produced John Madden and Joe Gibbs, who are also in the HOF ...

Yes, his defenses got worse in SD but his owner got rid of Fred Dean and Gary Johnson, not to mention John Jefferson and James Brooks on offense. Despite replacing these players, the team could not win it all but Coryell belongs

He does not deserve to be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As a head coach, he should have paid at least some attention to his defense. He inherited an excellent defense when he arrived in San Diego, but the defense fell apart under his watch. He had plenty of talent but never made it to the Super Bowl, much less win one.

I am not some hater of the Chargers. I have been a fan since 1962, when they played in Balboa Stadium, and still attend all home games, even though they are hours up the road at SoFi. Coryell simply should not be in the Hall of Fame.
