A 5x 1st team All Pro, Del Shofner quite simply belongs in the HOF...The fact the HOF senior committee didn't even nominate him as 1 of 25 players is just ignorant of NFL history...
DEL SHOFNER is the top wr not in the PFHOF.

As a 5x 1st team All Pro Del Shofner should be in HOF

Twenty-eight wide receivers, whose careers began in 1955, have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Adding Cliff Branch, who was nominated this year, and is certainly deserving of induction, (and most probably will be) the list is twenty-nine for the purposes of this analysis. Of all those twenty-nine Hall of Fame wide receivers, only two (Jerry Rice at ten and Lance Alworth at six) have more All Pro awards during their career than wide receiver Del Shofner's five ALL Pro awards. Terrell Owens tied Shofner at five ALL Pro awards. This means that twenty-six wide receivers now in the Hall of Fame have less All Pro Awards than Del Shofner, to include such luminaries as Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson and Raymond Berry. This means that when Del Shofner played, the media and experts recognized Del Shofner as the best at his position more times than twenty-five of the current Hall of Famers to inlcude Cliff Branch. Much is made about the Hall of Fame merits of Sterling Sharpe, who despite his seven year career, earned three all pro nominations. Without denigrating the substance of those arguments, Sterling Sharpe never dominated the NFL at the wide receiver position like Del Shofner did from 1958-1963. Lynn Swann is in Canton with 336 receptions and fifty one touchdowns. Del Shofner had 349 catches for fifty one touchdowns in his career. Yet, Swann earned only one All Pro Award. Del Shofner average 18.5 yards per catch. The only Hall of Fame wide receivers who average better yards per catch are Bob Hayes, Paul Warfield, Lance Alworth and Don Maynard. The argument against Del Shofner's induction is that he dominated for five years but his statistics for the remaining six years of his career are pedestrian. This is simply not a valid argument. Doak Walker, Calvin Johnson, Gale Sayers and Terrell Davis are in Canton even though they dominated the NFL for a short period of time. Indeed, Tony Boselli will probably be inducted in 2022 despite his short career. In sum, it is apparent that the Hall of Fame selectors are mesmerized by career statistics or the subjective bias of immediacy. Del Shofner dominated and played a long time ago. Therefore, his domination should be ignored. The purpose of this comment is to remind voters that only TWO wide receivers since 1955 dominated their era longer than Del Shofner. Del Shofner is a member of the 1960's All Decade team, an era where running the ball dominated NFL offenses. Del Shofner must be and should be inducted into Canton.

Now that Drew Pearson is in, Del Shofner is the only first-team all-decade wide receiver from the 1960s, '70s, '80s and '90s not in the Hall of Fame.
