Dave Butz was the cornerstone of the Redskin DL in a run dominated league. He allowed players like Manley and Grant to get their sacks, while always taking on a dbl team. Butz was always stuffing a play and did not allow a QB to move up in the pocket. I hope he gets in one day along with Jacoby, Brian Mitchell, and Sean Taylor (most likely too short of career ).

This is coming from a very devout Cowboys fan, who is very honest about giving credit to players who played against the Cowboys.

Dave Butz was a great player and should definitely be enshrined in the Hall of Fame in Canton, however he was a defensive lineman, not an offensive lineman. In fact, I think at one time in the prime of his career, he was considered by some pro football pundits to be the best defensive lineman in the entire League. (In all fairness, maybe he did play on offense at one time in his football career, but I can't find any information regarding that.)

Bless his soul, Dave Butz made his mark in the NFL for sixteen seasons. I hope he will be posthumously inducted into the HOF soon because his legacy and contributions to the NFL rightfully deserves to be with the other great defensive linemen in the HOF.

If there was ever a guy who deserved to be in the Hall of Fall, it was Dave Butz. In the 1970s and 1980s, the NFL was a run-heavy league. It was smash mouth football ALL the way. The linemen too rarely get in the Hall of Fame, but Butz was a leading Hog on the Redskin's offensive line and he just dominated defense linemen. Just manhandled them. He helped make Riggins the leading rusher that he was. How can Riggins, as great as he was, get in, but guys like Dave Butz didn't? Give more love to offensive linemen, especially of the smash mouth tough 80s era.
