Billy Cannon belongs in Canton. From the time of his Heisman Trophy winning career at LSU and entrance into pro football, he was considered one of the best players in the game, and he lived up to that hype. There are countless players with less qualifications who are already in. I believe he is discounted: 1-because he played his entire pro career in the AFL. 2- his post playing days legal troubles. But he more than atoned for that in his service to the Louisiana Prison medical system. That redemption should be a consideration.

Cannon showed he was a versatile performer, and played on 3 AFL Championship teams, and as a productive player in 6 Championship games. Originally the AFL was perceived as inferior to the NFL, but by 1969, after the Jets and Chiefs clobbered the NFL favorites, that myth was dispelled forever. It seems only the Lombardi Packers were superior to the AFL, but then they were to every NFL team as well.

I hope Cannon is reconsidered for Canton. He was one of the greatest players of his era.
